We are “A Creative Production Company”, but what on earth does, “A Creative Production Company” mean? Does it imply that there are production companies out there that aren’t creative? Maybe. We can’t tell you what the phrase, “A Creative Production Company”, might mean to other production companies, but we can tell you what it means to us, Saga Studios.

First let’s start with what we, Saga Studios, believe in; we believe in the power of story and that the right story told well can change the world. Now that you know WHY we exist, here’s our mission:

To educate, entertain, and enlighten the world around us by creating world-class experiences.

OK, so what does this have to do with explaining what a, “Creative Production Company”, is? Well I’ll tell you.

The literal definition of the word creativity is:

“The use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.”

By this simple definition “A Creative Production Company” is just a company who produces original things using their imagination. That seems a little bland if you ask me. Mark Twain himself said:

“There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages”.

If you believe this quote from Mark Twain does that then make the word creativity null and void by its own definition? I’m going to say no, but I’m also going to say that we need to redefine the word creativity. I don’t think anyone would say that Walt Disney wasn’t a creative person. I’d be willing to bet money that on most top ten lists of creative people that ever lived you’ll find Walt Disney’s name. Walt Disney, however, isn’t known for creating original ideas, he’s known for taking things that existed in one form combining them with another thing then BAM, something new is created that no one has ever seen, heard, or experienced before. From audio synced to video, to color cartoons, to a theme park unlike the world had ever seen. Walt Disney was able to look at something, use his imagination and create something uniquely Disney.

Disney is also a great example of how aligning the content/experience created with a company’s why statement creates a solid brand identity. No matter what Disney creates, live action content, animated content, theme park experiences, they know their why and who their audience is, so they are able to effectively create within their brand identity.

Being creative isn’t just about creating something that will elicit a lot of Oh’s and Ah’s from a crowd for a moment. For us, it’s about creating an experience with a solid story as it’s foundation that will last a lifetime. Not only will they experience it (view it, walk-through it, listen to it, etc.), but they will connect with it emotionally, spiritually, and physically. When creativity is used to connect with someone through story the connection is unbreakable. We use our creativity, with story as our foundation, to produce world-class experiences, whether that’s a brand campaign, an advertisement, a feature film, or a live walk-through experience. That’s our definition of what “A Creative Production Company” is.
